Review: Onye Vibrator

When I think of bullet vibes, I think of the little silver one-button-one-speed jobs that come with many toys. Or I think of the egg/bullet remote vibes. The Onye is bigger, quite a bit bigger. In fact, I’d put it in the Pocket Rocket category if it weren’t for the fact that it’s fancy with its numerous settings. Many sites no longer call it a Bullet vibe but that is how it was first hailed by the retailers and the manufacturer. It is shaped just like the smaller, standard bullet vibe cousins so we’ll leave it in that category.

Smooth hard plastic with a silicone band for gripping, and one single button. That button is one of my two negatives about it – you must cycle through all the settings before you turn it off. And if you are being too quick about it for whatever reason, you’ll pass by “off” and have to go through all 9 again.

It’s got a decent intensity rating and is a mid-tone buzzy. For me the “tone” of the vibration makes a big difference. The lower, the better, for me usually. A high tone buzzy, no matter the intensity, is akin to a hummingbird to me. Irritating sensations after a bit, kinda “itchy” almost. I really wanted to compare the buzz and intensity of this toy to other things such as the Silver Bullet, but I just recently killed it. It’s a sad day. It’s not as intense as the Bullet, that much I know. But I think that the Onye is more intense and a much lower buzz-tone than the Lelo Mia.

The Onye hasn’t gotten me off yet. Close, but not over the edge. Close enough to feel really good but perhaps I wasn’t using it under ideal circumstances. If I change my mind on that, I’ll let you know. If the vibrating mechanism was closer to the tip of the toy, it’d be a home run.

Pros:

• More intense than most “bullet” vibes
• More levels of intensity and patterns than most bullet vibes

Cons:

• As with other bullet vibes, it has only one button. Since I stick with the straight high-intensity setting, I have to click through 5 or 6 pattern settings until I can turn it off
• It takes 3 AAA batteries. Since most of my battery-operated toys take AA, I’m not apt to have as many AAAs lying around the house. Plus, the way the batteries go in is a bit confusing and I had trouble getting it settled in properly to turn on.

I’m not sure yet that it’s worth the price tag, but it IS really pretty so if you’re an aesthetics gal, you’ll love it. I’ll be reviewing another bullet style vibe in the somewhat-near future so I’ll have better comparison. Overall I’m more pleased with the intensity than other clit vibes I’ve gotten lately, so I’ll keep using it.
