The LELO Bo Cock Ring

I have to be honest, I’ve always hated cock rings, particularly the vibrating kind. The reason is that, until now, they’ve primarily been available in one main material: jelly. While jelly in a cock ring isn’t a huge concern with phthlates, my complaint with that material has been the way it behaves. It’s usually a flimsy material – easily tangled up within itself, collects dust like you wouldn’t believe, can be hard to clean off fluids especially once they’ve dried on and removing the bullet vibe from the ring is a pain in the ass if you’re changing the batteries or cleaning the ring. Another bad thing is that jelly isn’t really the strongest material, it can tear. We had one once and it didn’t really last long. Of course, it didn’t get used much either. This all is why, until now, I’ve never requested a cock ring to review. VibeReview was kind enough to send me one to try out!

Lelo’s stab at a cock ring, the Bo, takes all those former complaints and negates them. While the stretchy material of the ring portion can get a little tangled when you have it stretched out and homing in on its target, it is nothing of the pain that is a jelly cock ring. Never tangles, doesn’t collect dust – and it’s rechargeable! The bullet separates from the ring portion by sliding off in one direction – the “dock” portion there is a more solid material, as is the bullet of course. This cock ring also looks a lot classier than the jelly counterparts such as this one (which I think we owned one almost just like this). It comes in two solid colors, burgundy and deep blue.

My only “cons” to this aren’t really cons. First, the vibrating bullet turns on once it is slid about halfway onto the dock. Your best bet is to have it already on your cock first. The second con is that I wish it were a little stronger….however, I didn’t really put it to use like I think it’s intended. Vibrating cock rings are really intended as a couple’s toy. The mild constriction of the ring enlarges his girth and can act as an ejaculation delay method. It also enhances his sensitivity. The vibrations are meant primarily for her, although they feel good for him too. To me the vibrating cock rings are like an annoying gnat. Bzzt gone bzzt gone bzzt gone and so on. The only good positions are the more tantric style in which her clit is kept in close contact to his pelvis. Especially for my anatomy that vibrator doesn’t ever touch my clit. Many women though will find it works beautifully.

I use this cock ring then primarily for his pleasure. We turn it around so that the buzzing is felt on his cock and balls. For men that are of normal girth, it will easily fit around both cock and balls and the vibrations will touch on the perineum. The Bo cock ring added a really great addition to blow jobs.

Just keep in mind with cock rings to keep an eye on his cock and how long its been on there. I believe 30 minutes is the max, but we never go that long. If you’ve never used a cock ring of any sort, please do plenty of research first on proper use and what to expect.

Oh! One last thing – because of Lelo’s fondness for using silicone, we assumed that this, too, was silicone. Not so – it’s ABS / body safe TPE. This means that you can safely use a silicone-based lube with it. OR if you’re female and using this on a dildo it can safely be used on silicone toys {this is confirmed} – if it were made of silicone you could not do that. Silicone on silicone, be it two toys rubbin in each others bidnes or lube + toy, just don’t mix. Expect catastrophic results if you do mix by accident.

{edit: I finally was able to get ahold of a Lelo agent to answer my questions! They confirmed that yes indeed the Bo is safe to use in conjunction with silicone dildos. I’d be really interested to hear from a lesbian couple on this, if the vibrations are strong enough for the wearer of the harness to feel any of it.}
