Pleasure Purse - A sex toy storage bagI’ll spill the beans early: The Pleasure Purse is the best sex toy storage option for travel that I’ve ever seen. I’ve reviewed various and sundry sex toy storage options in my time and have never really been impressed past first blush. My interest in the cutesy-kitsch of the Devine Playchest faded once the shitty quality came to light. Their earlier attempt at a travel bag also failed for me. For home use, the Toibocks was a let down for the price despite its unique nature.  Another travel option, the now-defunct For Your Nymphomation XL Toybox case was great at first, but again quality problems revealed themselves a few months down the line. Plus stuffing things into pouches became really annoying.

I kind of have a “thing” for specialized, pretty-lookin storage options beyond sex toys. So for those who scoff and say “just buy some affordable luggage or a duffel bag”……you’re not my people. I don’t understand you, you don’t understand me. That’s fine. For my people? Oh, listen up. You’re going to love this.

Things I Love

The Pleasure Purse is intended to be used primarily for travel, but there’s no reason you can’t use it for stationary storage in your closet, either. Pleasure Purse looks like a posh, overnight bag – supple, slightly shiny garment leather with an embroidered logo on one side. It’s large enough to work as an overnighter bag for those who don’t overpack, unless your overnight trip also involves a lot of gear for bondage. You’ll see first in the video what I was able to fit in for use as an overnight bag. At this point, the bag was very full – it was a little too heavy for me to comfortably carry through an airport, yet okay for a trip from car to hotel room. My husband felt the weight was easily managed for an airport-length trek by using the included shoulder strap. But to really test the quality of the Pleasure Purse, I piled it with about 12-14 pounds (or the equivalent weight of my overweight cat in her vet carrier) of sex toys and hung it up by the straps for a few weeks to see how the stitching would hold up. I’m happy to report that everything looks just fine. This bag is REALLY well-made. When used as sex toy storage at home, you can really pack a lot into the Pleasure Purse. It’s like a freaking clown car. The second half of the video shows what I fit in for the “closet sex toy storage” – I should note, at the full point it was too heavy for me to lift and I did slightly fear damaging the bag with that much weight. If it’s just sitting in your closet you could really cram a lot in there.

I love the overall design, and the number of pockets. I adore the look of it because it’s unisex from the exterior and absolutely would not raise any eyebrows. The size is just great. I come from a long line of professional over-packers, intent on having any item I might possibly perhaps need; the size of the Pleasure Purse is big enough that I can fit in my weird things but manageable enough size that I feel the desire to reign myself in and contain my packing to just this bag – and can, with ease. And I really have to mention quality, again. I could not find one single flaw on this bag, one place where they cut corners. The bottom of the bag is sturdy, and there are little feet so the leather isn’t touching dirty floor. The zippers glide along easily, and the zipper pulls wont’ break off anytime soon. The way the zipper pulls meet up so that they can be locked is also well done. It’s probably the highest quality sex toy storage bag on the market.

Deconstructing the Pleasure Purse

On the outside, there are 3 pockets. Two deep side pockets provide easy access for your cell, keys and other things you’d like to keep at hand. There is also a bottom, zippered compartment that isn’t as useful as I assumed. It’s really best for books or things that you would put into a pouch. Leah told me that they originally intended for this bottom, zippered compartment to also lock, but had problems finding a way to get 2 locks that worked with one key.  Once the bag is filled up with items, the only thing separating the main contents from the bottom compartment is the satin liner fabric. Small objects would be hard to remove but even more difficult to put back in unless there’s a solid layer of clothing at the bottom of the main compartment inside. I think that for this bottom compartment to really work, the zipper needs to extend to the sides and the bottom of the main compartment needs to have a solid bottom. This way the bag could be unzipped and opened up more fully if needed, and items could be stored in the bottom without the worry of rooting around under the mass of stuff inside the bag.

On the inside, one side has a large, zippered pocket while the other side has 1 zippered mesh compartment and 1 elastic-banded mesh compartment. The mesh compartments are great for holding accessories, chargers, etc. The zippered pocket inside would be great for lingerie, undies, smaller sex toys like cock rings and bullet vibes or even a blindfold. I highly recommend that toiletries, lubes and massage oils be double-bagged in leak-proof plastic bags – if anything should leak, there is no waterproof lining to prevent the leather from staining. If the satin liner stains, you’ll only be able to very carefully handwash.

Things I Dislike

PPlockCurrently the Pleasure Purse is only available in the color option shown in these photos – black leather and a leopard print interior. I can’t say I like the leopard print interior, it feels like it’s trying too hard to be sexy. I prefer more subtle, sophisticated color pairings. I’d love to see a white/cream leather with an ocean blue lining, or a brown leather with a cream lining. I’d love to see the black leather paired with a silvery-gray lining or even just a different print like colored polka dots on black, or black on white paisley/abstract.

I’m also not a fan of the lock. I don’t love the heart motif but mostly I don’t like these little keys. They are too easily lost. I much prefer having a smaller combination lock or even one of these new “keycard” luggage locks (which was what I purchased for myself to use with this bag). So long as the lock could be all black, I don’t think it needs to have a design to it. Something low-key would be better.

Would I Recommend The Pleasure Purse?

No contest, yes I absolutely recommend it. The few things I dislike are a matter of style preference and are not deal-breakers to me. The Pleasure Purse is a bit of a spend, retailing for $120, but I feel it’s worth every penny for what it is. I also find it quite laughable that the Pleasure Purse only costs a few more dollars than the Devine Playchest, yet is infinitely more useful.  We often go visit family for the weekend, at least 5 times a year. We also plan to travel more on our own, taking short overnight trips here and there. I’ll absolutely being getting a lot of use out of the Pleasure Purse.  It is really very nice looking, comfortable to carry, extremely well-made, and very versatile.

Now available at Shevibe.com!!!

I was sent the Pleasure Purse in exchange for my very honest review.

Apr 242014

DevinePlaychestA little over four years ago I reviewed the Devine Playchest. Back then, they made it very clear everywhere you looked that this was a “limited edition” item (the item, NOT the color) and if you wanted one you should hurry up and get one.  At the EF forums, reviewers questioned just HOW “Limited Edition” this was, how many were made, and if the current “out of stock” status meant it was already gone for good. Like any slippery politician worth their salt, Devine reps were vaguebooking like champs.

*slow clap*

Brilliant marketing scheme, Devine. I fell for it, spending my points at EF to buy one. At first, I was mostly happy with the case, despite the flaws in quality and design with the lock. But within the year…. the problems began. And I stopped using it. It became a doorstop, a beast lurking in the closet, a shiny mocking lump.

In the beginning….

I originally bought the Devine Playchest not so much for toy storage, but as something neat for travel. Back then I was taking yearly trips into NYC/DC for sex bloggery events, and foresaw a need for something cute like this. But the Playchest is quite heavy all on it’s own–when you fill it up? Overwhelming. I tried filling it with sex toys to see how much it would hold, but then I literally could not lift the sucker. This was the main reason I stopped using it. I would toss toys in there because in 2010 we lived in a small-ish apartment and I didn’t have the room I do now for sex toys. But it stayed in the closet.

The Honeymoon Ended

The lock was always my biggest complaint – for such a pricey storage option, that lock was maddeningly cheap. One key bent not long after I bought it and the “lock” could be picked with a bobby pin and patience. And the spring-loaded locking latch soon stopped popping out enough after pushing it below the latching mechanism’s bar, meaning that the flap would pop up with some pressure (like during transport). After a little while, I also grew to hate the interior design. There were pockets inside the lid, but they were just mesh with elastic at the openings. Stuff would fall out. The inside was a box with a wibbly cardboard divider held in place by velcro. Stuff could only be piled haphazardly.  Another problem is with the fake patent leather.  It scuffed and tore easily, and this case never left the apartment, it wasn’t handled with anything but care. The light pink section of the lock flap and the handles started absorbing color from the black.

Then, a rep from Devine got a little condescending-bunny on me in the comments of my on-site review. Thanks for that, really. But hey, here we are — 4 years later, and not only are the cases still around but they keep coming out with new colors. Sure, the new colors look snazzy. All black; dark purple with black accents or blood red with black accents. And sadly, the cases seem good for the first few months and that’s when reviews get written.  I can’t go back and edit my reviews at EF, or I would. I’ll have to settle for updating it here.  Since it’s still readily available and still costs a bomb ($115 at Shevibe), I have got to tell you that it is not worth the investment. At all. Not unless you regularly drop $100+ on kitschy items for the sake of the looks and not the quality/function. Was it large? Yes. Was it sturdy in build? Sure. Was it relatively pretty (albeit in a certain overtly femme way)? Yes. That’s not enough to save it though, for me. For that kind of money, I’m going to be really picky.

Where Are They Now?

Currently living at Crista‘s house. Not as sex toy storage. I said “it’s pink and black and cute, but please take this puppy off my hands” and she said “awesome! The kids will love to play pirate!” and then she pirated it for herself. The end.

Dec 182010

The Devine Playchest, when it first came out, was in combo’s of only pink and black. Mostly pink with black accents, or vice versa. I purchased the Black with Pink Accents and reviewed it here. While I DO like black and pink together, I have to admit I would have really preferred an all-black version.

And now they have it.

I wish I could trade mine in.

Another toy that’s been redesigned is the Acuvibe – it’s now in all black too. I wanna trade my old style in.

Mar 282010

You know, I don’t get ALL my sex toys for free. Sometimes I get impatient and just buy them. Sometimes I do a “buy out” for review at edenfantasys.com which means I get a discount but I still have to review it, such as the Devine Play Chest or the Fleshlight.

But there’s things I purchased with my own money (err…I mean EF giftcards that I got from writing for Edencafe plus the commissions I got from affiliate sales at EF) recently that I want to talk about, both the good and the bad. So read on for my thoughts on the Toiboks Original, the Erosillator 2, a couple of toy storage bags, the Nobessence Seduction dildo, and the Wahl 7-in-1 2-speed Massager.

Toibocks Original

This is a pricey yet unique toy storage item for someone with a few bedside toys that needs total privacy and discretion. The Toibocks IS beautiful, a dark mahogany wood that looks like a plain box and the lid opens to reveal a jewelry-tray thing. Keep cheap jewelry there, watch, anything that you like that’s average and doesn’t warrant a closer look. To anybody that looks at it in depth they’ll know that the box is big but the tray is shallow and try to lift up the tray. But it is locked in place with no obvious key hole. The key is contained within this piece that is stored inside the box magnetically to the metal logo on the underside of the lid. Problem is, in my eyes, that “key” is obvious that it doesn’t belong. In other pictures I had thought it to be metal, but it’s just plastic. Not even fake-chrome-plated plastic, it’s the swirly metallic-silver and so it looks like an oversized play-money coin from a child’s board game, and that’s really my only disappointment with this whole thing. The box is lined with velveteen-flocked cardboard and appears to be well made and sturdy. Like I said…..pricey, not for storing serious valuables, but it IS pretty and inconspicuous. Good choice for bedside storage if you have roommates or kids.

Toy Pouches

These are being sold under EdenFantasys as the brand, and are cute drawstring toy pouches. I purchased one of each, unable to tell exactly if one was better/different than the other. Other than one having the EF logo in glued-on rhinestones, there’s absolutely no different and IMO not really worth sending the extra $6. They come in black or purple on the outside and it’s a faux-suede material. The inside is a hot pink satin. Sturdy, thick cords make up the drawstring. Shiny silicone dildos/vibrators will not smoothly glide along the satin on the inside, so I took one and turned it inside out (that’s the pink one you see above). While the suede will likely stain more easily if the dildo isn’t clean, it can be easier to use it this way for some toys. I was able to fit the Wahl in the pouch by removing the attachment and just dropping it in the bag. I could probably fit one more attachment in it. Toys longer than 9.5-10″ won’t fit in and still let the pouch close.

Eroscillator 2

After reading Epiphora’s stellar, glowing review I decided to try it out. However….her review was for the tippy top super deluxe package of every attachment plus the stronger motor. SheVibe carries various packages, but the one I first tried was the “2 Plus” basic kit. I liked it….but it wasn’t perfect for ME. I like pressure and with the oscillations you can’t apply pressure, or they’ll slow down a lot. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this though for other women, so long as they don’t require pressure like I do. It can be powerful or subtle, good for a wide range of women. Even my husband liked the sensation of it when I applied it to his hard cock, at the frenulum. I think that I could love it if I was able to try out the super deluxe package, with a more powerful motor and different attachments. In the end, I wound up loving  the Wahl so much that I no longer reached for the E2 and so I gave it to Backseat Boohoo as a surprise. (she loved it)

UPDATE: I eventually was able to try out the “Top 2 Deluxe”, the model that boasts more power. Combined with the absolutely-essential Fingertip Attachment, I finally understood what everybody who loved it was talking about. I could truly get rid of all other attachments and solely use the Fingertip. It makes the difference; without it, I was feeling pretty lukewarm about even the Top 2 Deluxe model.  It’s a pricey spend, but will offer you a lot of variety with texture and sensation plus could be the thing that changes your mind about vibrators. It’s an “oscillator”, not a “vibrator”.

Wahl 7-in-1   2-speed Massager

That sounds so clinical, doesn’t it? This is another “body massager” that has become a pervertable vibrator in disguise. Not for those with sensitive clits, but it’s very different from the Hitachi’s power. The type of vibrations can’t even be compared. The Wahl comes with 7 little plastic attachments but to ME most are not going to work was a sex toy. Especially the scalp massager attachment (the one with nubby spikes). Ouch. There’s 2 speeds and they deliver more than just differing speeds….it’s totally different types of vibrations. The first is almost buzzy and surfacey but yet….not. Because long time readers will know that my clit doesn’t like that type and my clit loves the Wahl, both speeds. The second speed is…..whoa. Only for the aroused clit. The word “jackhammer” comes to mind, but not in a scary way. It’s not a numbing buzz like the Hitachi, it’s…..literally like a hammering/thumping sort of vibration. That might sound painful but I swear, it’s not. And holy shit is this thing QUIET especially on the first speed. On the first speed you wouldn’t be able to hear it from a few feet away. The cord is nice and long. The Wahl has become my go-to vibe now. Sure it looks funny but I can’t even tell you the last time I reached for my Hitachi since I now own this and the Climax Twist. Also, unlike the Hitachi, I never ever go numb from it, clit OR hand. This paragraph doesn’t even do it justice, maybe I’ll write about it more elsewhere, another time. LOVE IT. Buy one. BUY IT. You’ll love it.

Nobessence Seduction

The Nobessence Seduction is a pretty awesome dual-ended wood dildo. This dildo is NOT for those who think their vagina is small. This is a dildo for the size queens, but yet with some “warm up” many should be able to handle the larger end. I LOVE IT. I’ve used both ends; the larger end gives me the more broad g-spot action from feeling fulfilled, while the small knobby end can give pinpoint pressure. Due to the design, it’s anal safe, too, and that small end would be great for prostate massage. They use a different finishing method than Hans Hardwoods dildo I own, and it seems to seep into the wood giving it a 3D glowy sheen almost. It’s a pricey dildo but SO fucking worth it. And the packaging? Cute. CUTE! Hard pressed/colored/textured cardboard that is very thick and sturdy; the inside is padded and has a few elastic bands to hold the item in place.  I really can’t recommend this enough. It’s lightweight, it’s really well made, it can be sanitized and cleans up easily and is super beautiful.

Feb 142010

The bulk and details of my actual review are over at Edenfantasys, but since I can’t post photos there, I’m doing it here. This item is something that I did as a “buy-out” review, meaning I got a 30% discount so I paid for most of it. I’m super picky on what items I’ll actually buy simply because I know me….and I know I’m super picky. Nothing is worse than the feeling of “Oh wow, I just spent over $100 on something and I don’t like it” (hello, Eroscillator) but even us reviewers take risks. So you get two things here in this post that won’t be at my review on EF: lots of photos, and product comparison.

First I have to say this: I do not know why (Devine won’t give us details on the EF forums) but this is a Limited Edition case. The black one that I have sold out quickly at first and I feared it was sold out for good. I put an alert on the item and thankfully it was back in stock in less than a week. The black is now sold out again, and we’re not being told if that’s permanent. If you like this, and like it in black, put an alert on the item and jump on it.

This is my second Devine toy case to review, and my first one (the satchel) didn’t rate very high with me. It was essentially a bag with no pockets and a flimsy divider down the middle; I also took issue with their very cheap and easy-to-break padlock. Given the grand design of this case, I had really high hopes for improvement and in all but one area, there has been improvement. So let me get the bad out of the way before I show you the rest. The lock. It’s a very old-school luggage lock. The key is nothing but a prong shaped thing of cheap metal, and as you can see in the photo below it has bent already. Given the design of the lock though, that doesn’t matter, which tells me that the “key” is worthless. Anybody with something resembling this key can get into the case. Bobbypins, anyone? So it’s not a secure lock in the presence of adults. The lock just pushes in on a spring. Should that spring break it will never lock again but will hopefully still keep closed.

This case is a lot bigger than I anticipated. Which is both good and bad. The Hitachi easily lays down inside of it. You can over-fill the center portion because of the design of the lid. The divider is snug against the base of the case, because both are firm. The divider failed on the satchel because the base of the satchel was not solid. The divider can be removed, it’s velcroed in there. They give you a little mesh pouch there and an elastic band. There’s two mesh pouches inside the lid. Mine holds my flogger in one and the attachments for my Wahl and Eroscillator in the other.

This thing really can hold a lot of toys – I don’t have a high number of toys in here in these photos but that’s because I chose all big ones. There is, of course, a downside and that is once I had all this stuff in there? Holy fuck I could barely lift the case! Granted, I’m a weakling.

In the one photo I laid in there the entirety of the Black Label accessories kit for my Liberator Ramp & Wedge combo. In another here I’ve got an Impressions paddle and a 15ft hank of hemp rope. If you’d like to use this case to transport your play session bondage items, you could fit a LOT of rope and leather in here.

As for the other toys in there? Hitachi, Wahl, Eroscillator and Pure Wand on one side. A custom made dildo from Hans, the Nobessence Seduction dildo, the Jollie and a book.

So you can’t exactly talk about one sex toy case without comparing it to another. But yet, how can you when they’re so vastly different? For You Nymphomation cases are truly secure and locking, because they all use better quality padlocks. The bigger cases like the XL Toy Box that I own have removable pouches and little velcro-shut tabs. Your stuff doesn’t just lay in there in a heap. Of course the smaller cases by FYN they do just lay in there. The Devine cases are almost all decidedly very femme. FYN cases can be more gender-neutral. The FYN XL Toybox and ToyChest are not thick/tall, but this means they can fit under the bed. The Devine Playchest? It’s not going to be as easy to stow away, and it’s so pretty that it begs people to ask about it.

All in all, I’m happy I bought the Devine Playchest and I won’t always be using it for sex toys. I can see this coming with me on the train to NYC (but never would I take it on a plane and deal with TSA). If you think you’d like one, hurry!

Apr 202009

Recently I bought a bunch of cases from Vera, owner of For Your Nymphomation. My lot are from the older style of cases, so the zipper closure that locks isn’t as awesome as it is currently – but I don’t have kids or nosy parents/roommates, so I didn’t care.

I got a bunch of  different things – a Bigfoot case, a Foot long case, a Hide n Seek case, and a Size Does Matter case.

One of the things I love about the Hide n Seek case is the material – which, sadly, Vera is discontinuing. It’s the textured black. This isn’t the typical faux leather, it’s a more stiff, bumpy matte-finish vinyl. (Shown here in a smaller case than the one I got) Masculine, really. But I love it because it’s very stiff and sturdy and I know my somewhat-delicate bullet vibe is safe in there to get tossed around my big work bag and not get broken. Stuffed in that case is the bullet vibe I reviewed recently (the battery pack is bigger, other bullet vibes I’ll have more room), 5 AA’s, my Pocket Rocket, and another tiny little vibe. If  I remove the other stuff, I can fit in just the bullet and the wooden dildo, plus spare batteries.

My Size Does Matter case is actually being used for my digital camera accessories like memory cards, the usb stick card reader, and spare batteries.

The Foot Long case is being used by my partner for his few toys – it’s overkill, not like anything he has is a foot long! But I wanted something bigger rather than smaller. I got this one in the purple and it’s really nice! Soft faux flexible leather in a realistic faux-leather look and it’s a pretty dark purple.

Big Foot is nice – firm sides, straps inside for things, straps on the lid. I haven’t truly put it to proper use, as most of my toys stay in the Adult Toybox XL, but I did test to make sure it’ll fit the Hitachi – and it does. Barely, the cord end pushes the material out just a smidge to get it in there, but it fits.

I’m not kissing Vera’s ass here, lol, I really do like these cases. I’d get more of the Hide n Seek if I had the spare money, and not for sex toy purposes! It’s a great size for a lot things. I think these are better than the Devine brand, and there’s a ton more sizes and options. When you go to the average online sex toy retailer, the For Your Nymphomation cases are really the only ones worth looking at. If you have ANY reason whatsoever to need your privacy – these cases are the way to go.

The discount for my readers (use code DangerousFYN at checkout) is still valid until I hear otherwise, so take advantage of it! Also check out her sale page, there’s a brown Foot Long case that’s perfect for a guy, or if you simply like brown “leather”. She’s not going to be making cases in this color any more, so get on it!
