TantusBlackWidowHarness4Not too long ago, Tantus launched a line of fancy-pants strap-on harnesses. Made of leather, they feature great designs and innovative harness technologies1. Some of the Connoisseur line works with the standard rings  and buckles (Nevada and Black Widow), but a few of them rely on velcro for a super easy, more streamlined fit (Amazon, EZ and Nurse).  The standard designs of Nevada and Black Widow are more versatile, though, since they come with interchangeable rubber o-rings.

The Good

The Tantus Black Widow Harness can fit a fairly wide range of bodies. The hip size range listed on the site is 30-50″ but I think it depends on how you wear it and how you’re built. If you’re heavy-set with a large lower belly roll like me, you’ll be wearing this differently than someone with a wide-hipped flatter-tummy hourglass shape. The harness wearer is going to get the most pleasure out of the experience by wearing the front of the harness low enough so that the pressure from the base of the dildo rests above the clitoris, but this is a subjective point. That being said, if I went by my actual hip measurement, I would have been afraid of not fitting into this, but due to how I wore it I actually had a good bit of strap room to spare.

This harness is REALLY well made. The stitching is tight, the leather cut-out of the web design is perfect. The primary leather is all black, and then the front and back piece have a 2-layer design on top; a black spider-web cut-out design covers a red background leather. The straps have finished edges, everywhere, and all stitching is done in the contrasting red. This harness won’t fall apart on you, given proper care and maintenance2.  The fit can be customized further because of the loop rings at the back for the leg straps, too. It’s made from a high quality leather that is soft, yet sturdy enough to withstand the rigors of this intricate design. If you’ve ever owned or felt an Aslan Leather Minx or Jaguar harness, it’s almost as soft as that…not quite as pliable though.

The designs are pretty unique and interesting. How can you not feel like a total bad-ass wearing a harness that evokes Super Hero undertones?!? The other designs are just as fabulous, too.  Nevada is more gender-neutral than Amazon or Nurse, which I appreciate. Amazon is pretty, and Nurse would be awesome for role-play/cosplay.

Why it Didn’t Work For Me

That’s right, it didn’t work for me as well as I’d like, and I hate to say it. Black Widow wasn’t a good fit for me. It’s all down to how my body is built. The lower belly overhang combined with the large o-rings on either side of the front piece meant that the o-rings dug into  me in an uncomfortable way.  The way the Black Widow front piece comes up in the center to a peak also didn’t work with my belly. The Nevada front piece design would probably work better for me in that aspect. The Amazon design wouldn’t work for me at all due to the thick design, but could be great for many other body types – just not mine.

Yes, that’s the only downfall – my own body.  Not every body will work with every harness, and that is sadly the case for me. You might also not be as sensitive as me. I’m a bit “Princess and the Pea” – even remnants of a tag will bother me, or a weird fabric will make me crazy. I’m extra, super picky in that regard, and I realize that. I fully believe though that this harness will work for the majority of you. If it weren’t so very well-made, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Color Coordinating

Stylized harnesses like this beg for color coordination, in my opinion. I can’t help it! I would feel weird pairing the Black Widow with any of the realistic flesh toned dildos, but that’s just me. Dark or medium purple could work in a pinch, I suppose, but I’d only feel truly right pairing it with a black or red dildo. Luckily there are many options for black harness-compatible dildos at Tantus.  Listed in size order from smallest to largest: Silk Medium, Mark O2, Curve, Throb, Silk Large, Adam O2, Raptor, Raptor XL and T-Rex.

Grab Bag might have a chance now and then at a red dildo. If red is really what you want to match, I’d suggest giving Tantus a call3 or email and they can probably go see if any existing Grab Bag items are sitting around at the moment in red. You might get lucky!

sex-toy-for-couple-playI’ve seen the Heeldo bopping around the industry for a few years, and was always curious. I finally got a chance to review one to see if it would work out like I thought it would.

Yes.

And no.

Many would probably laugh at the concept, and I do laugh at the thought of donning the Heeldo to be used on someone else (gives new meaning to the eloquent term “cunt-punt”), but for masturbation it could be really great for some people.

I, as you know, have troubles with thrusting a straight dildo. But I do so love my Tantus dildos and while their bases usually do a decent job of acting like a suction cup, I don’t have any surfaces in my house that are suction-cup friendly. So I thought that the Heeldo would be my ticket to improved self-fucking.

Sadly, it was not meant to be for me. You really just cannot have bad knees in order to use this for very long (or for some, at all). You cannot have flexibility issues. And you should be on speaking terms with sex-toy-for-masturbation-3(1)squats on a thrice-weekly basis. Great for a fit person with no joint problems though. This would be awesome for people who like thrusting motions with a dildo against their prostate whilst leaving both hands free for penis love. This would be great for anybody for anal play, really, along with vaginal. But really, the more flexible you are, the more use you’ll get out of the Heeldo.  It’s comfortable enough to wear and use, you just have to consider your own limitations, if you have them.  It’s primarily made of neoprene with webbing straps and plastic buckles.

At first I didn’t understand, or identify with, their decision to make a fetish cam girl model their spokesperson, but I get it now. It’s a great tool. Hands-free self-fucking and provides a great visual for their clients with a foot fetish.  One aspect of their marketing is something I just don’t understand – they are firmly entrenched in the gender binary and hetero slant. So much so that their suggestion to use this as a “couples” tool is specific to only “straight” couples. Their idea is that she should use the Heeldo on herself whilst giving him a blowjob.   They could have just left the orientation out of the mix and been more neutral. Why couldn’t a gay couple enjoy this in the same manner? They could. Or a lesbian couple? I’m sure they might like it, too. Take that oral sex idea and remove gender altogether because it’ll work out no matter the configuration. They could have subtly been inclusive, instead of being exclusive.  Under the graphic where they advertise it’s use for prostate play, they do mention gay couples, as more of an afterthought.  When you click on that image and you get to the page talking about using Heeldo for prostate play, they seem to be more inclusive but yet….why feel the need to go this route? “Heeldo for men transcends sexual preferences!  It is the first strap on harness for both gay and straight men.” Oh so, only the Heeldo for Men transcends sexual preferences? *sigh*

Heeldo comes in some pretty typical colors: Black, Red, Bubblegum Pink and Leopard-print. Industry standard, really, and no imagination.  The sizing is odd, too.  “Women’s” is for US Women’s shoe sizes 4-8. That’s it. The “Men’s” option is for US Men’s shoe sizes 8-12. There’s no really good way of being able to tell that a person who wears US Women’s shoe size 9 should get the “Men’s” version, sadly. If you happen to be female-identified and have a larger foot size, and let’s say you really like pink, you’re out of luck.  According to the site: “Heeldo for Her fits women’s foot 4 – 8 and is available in the black, pink, red, and leopard colors.  Heeldo for Him fits men’s foot size 8 – 12 and is available in both black and red.”

Dear Heeldo:  tone down the extreme gender binary / hetero slant. If they would just change the marketing and language to be more inclusive of the gender & sexuality spectrum, and less rigid, I suspect that more doors could open for them.  Can’t they just have sizing that disregards gender on their packaging and list a size chart describing what size feet it’ll fit, and offer all sizes in all colors?

Overall – it does the job it intends to do. It offers something of an alternative to relying to suction-cup dildos. It’s not going to be a tool that every body can successfully use, but it is definitely interesting.  Issues with gender, colors, and sizing aside, it’s still an interesting product. I would recommend it, I just would feel better about recommending it if some things were changed.

BS is Nice - Rainbow G-Spot DildoBS Is Nice”  is a newer silicone company making hand-poured 100% pure silicone products in Madrid. SheVibe.com has started to carry some of their products and graciously sent me one to try out.

BS has a lot of interesting color schemes and designs; some (not on the SheVibe site) are a little less fun and are just single or dual colors. Others are much more interesting. There’s a cow print, one that looks like a sports sock, crazy asymmetrical stripes and zebra stripes. You can see roughly what it’ll look like on the site, but since it’s hand-poured they’re not all going to be exact. The rainbow levels on mine are not quite as uniform as the one photographed for SheVibe, but they’re unique. I’ve seen photos from BS on Facebook where the rainbow levels were more uniform and more thick, going a little farther up. I’d say that the only thing I would improve about the designs where it encompasses the base, is to bring that design farther up from the base just a bit, maybe a half-inch or so more than mine show? When I put my Rainbow G-Spot in my Aslan Leather Harness, most of the colors were hidden, and it didn’t quite fit right in this particular Aslan style. If you want the BS dildos for use in a harness, I’d suggest that they will look best and work better with harnesses that are more minimalistic, or at least don’t have you pushing the dildo through fabric or leather.  The Aslan Commando harness would be better, as would the Sportsheets ones since the dildo only goes through the o-ring, not the fabric. This might fit RodeoH or Spartparts styles, it’s not oddly small or wide, but you’ll cover up most of the design by using those types of harnesses.

BS Rainbow G-Spot shown in the Aslan Jaguar/Minx Harness BS Rainbow G-Spot - The Rainbow Base BS Rainbow G-Spot in the Aslan Cherry Minx(Jaguar) Harness

The G-Spot style is the only BS dildo style that SheVibe currently carries, but I happen to think it’s a pretty good choice. I’m not usually a fan of perfectly straight dildos (unless the girth is the factor) and this heavily curved design combined with a slightly-flat more snub-nose tip (reminiscent a bit of the Lelo Ella, shown below to compare) will be great for g-spots and even prostates. I happen to have the Medium size, which looks like it’ll give you an extra inch in length over the small, and a little bit more girth. Honestly the girth is hard to measure. The shaft seems to be 1.3 inches wide and the head juts out a little to be more like 1.4, 1.45 inches wide, but the base widens a little bit on a slope, making it sit less flush against a harness o-ring than I’d like. SheVibe does a pretty good job of measuring the items they list, especially when there are multiple sizes available. For size/shape comparison below, I’ve shown the BS alongside the Tantus O2 Cush in blue, and a black Tantus P-Spot dildo.

Showing the tip of the Lelo Ella vs the BS G-Spot Tantus O2 vs BS G-Spot vs Tantus P-Spot

The G-Spot design is just flexible enough for me to be able to straighten it out fully, so for those that really like and almost require a firm curve and specific pressures/angles for g-spot or prostate stimulation might not love this line. The silicone isn’t quite as squishy as the Tantus O2 outer layer, but is quite a bit softer and more flexible than very firm Tantus pieces. BS silicone is about on par with Vamp silicone in firmness. For those that like some give and dislike rock-solid materials, you’ll really like the BS silicone. It does of course gather up fur/dust/link like crazy.

I actually really like the BS packaging design. It’s minimal, yet reusable. It comes in a clear, plastic pouch but it is a very thick mil of plastic, more like heavy plastic sheeting than the bags that a Tantus dildo might come in. And yes, I said reusable. It comes to you like a food item – you tear off the sealed portion of plastic up top and then it has a “Ziploc” style closure for the bag. It’s not discreet since it’s see-through, but it’s great for people who don’t have a lot of storage space options and want to put the dildo in something to keep it clean in between uses.

Since it’s pure silicone, you’ll probably need to use lube with this, the silicone dildos usually tend to naturally create a little more resistance (unless they’re super glossy in finish). I’d suggest a water-based lube, pure natural coconut oil, or you can try to spot-test your favorite silicone or hybrid lube on the base. If it gets gummy/tacky in a minute, scrape it off right away. If there’s no change, leave it there an hour and see if there’s any further change (like the lube gets absorbed). To clean these, you can pretty much do anything. Soap and water for most situations, dishwasher, boiling water, or 10% bleach solution if you’re going to use it both anally and vaginally (although never in the same session, please) or share it.

SheVibe.com is becoming known for showcasing the smaller companies, and I think that BS Is Nice offers a few really great choices that are unique. I have a feeling that this rainbow-and-black color scheme will be a big seller. Thank you, Shevibe!!

Tantus Giveaway! Get your hands on the Anaconda or the Bend Over kit!

Feb 172012

Open to US participants – Win a Tantus Anaconda dildo or their Bend Over Intermediate kit (plus a t-shirt!) – Contest ends Feb 29th

Tantus Anaconda Dildo - 100% Pure Premium Silicone Tantus Bend Over Intermediate Kit with 2 Silk DildosTantus T-Shirt: Sticking it to the Man

Now that I’ve told you everything nerdy about silicone sex toys and Tantus sex toys, you get a chance to own one! The winner will get to choose between the Anaconda 1 or the Bend Over Intermediate Kit (I’m sure the lovely Jenna will let you choose your favorite color).

The Anaconda dildo is awesome because it has a handle. It’s a dildo..on a stick. 2 Ok no it’s not on a stick, sorry. But it is really unique. The Anaconda is made of a very firm silicone – for those of you familiar with the Flex, it’s like that, or those of you familiar with any O2 dildo it’s like the bottom layer. Solid, very solid. This enables the handle to actually, yanno, be a handle. It’s nearly a foot long overall, with 4″ of handle and 7″ of dildo (which is 1.75″ wide). You’ll have your choice of 3 colors.

The Bend Over Intermediate kit is great for pegging or vaginal sex. The super-comfortable Bend Over harness has a padded front, holds a bullet vibe for the wearer, and comes with 2 dildos, the Silk Medium: 1.25″ x 5.5″ and the Silk Large: 1.5″ x 7″. The harness will fit hips up to 60″. The o-ring snap point is really secure because it has 4 straps that hold the o-ring, not just 3. You can pick either the black or the purple kit.

I’ll be using the handy Rafflecopter to take in entries. If you have any questions at all on how to quantify your entry, leave a comment on this post and I’ll get back to you. While I would love to use the honor system, not everybody that enters contests is honorable, sadly, so I’ll need the link for confirmation (smart people will TEST their link to make sure it leads to something I’ll be able to see, or include a link to a screenshot of the submission to Reddit/Stumble/Digg if all else fails). Invalid entries will get tossed, I won’t be hunting you down to fix it. You may share a single post across all 4 social media sites, but then you can’t share/submit that one again for this contest.

p.s. did you know that you can use Facebook to sign into Stumbleupon & Digg? Makes it pretty easy to get daily entries.

The winner will get to choose between the Anaconda or the Bend Over kit; the winner will also get a t-shirt! (sizes S-3X) And yes, there will only be one winner overall, not one winner for each prize – I simply wanted my winner to have options. There’s plenty of things to do every day for an entry, though! Please be sure to read the terms and rules, k?

Since I clearly have to spell this out: Note to those doing the Facebook entries: You must be logged into Facebook when you “like” things, and do it through the Like button within Rafflecopter. If you don’t, it won’t provide me a link to your facebook, and without that I have no way of verifying your entry. Therefore, your entry will be invalid and removed, you won’t be entered into the drawing.

Review: “Divine Diva” Plus Size Strap-on Harness by Sportsheets

Adult Products, Sex Toys  Comments Off on Review: “Divine Diva” Plus Size Strap-on Harness by Sportsheets
Sep 232011

When it comes to choosing a strap-on harness for yourself, especially when purchasing adult toys online where you can’t feel the material, “confusing” doesn’t even begin to cover it. Confusion is compounded if you’re larger than a size 16/18 (US sizing there). Many harnesses give a waist measurement and a leg opening measurement but they forget one crucial thing about women of all sizes: we don’t all have flat stomachs. Your body shape and where you carry your weight factors heavily into choosing a harness AND how it will fit on your1 body2

My very first experience with a strap-on harness also coincided with my first pegging experience and my first real BDSM experience as being the top. Let’s just say that there was much failure in all aspects – the least of which was that I did not fit into the harness and I was too embarrassed to tell the (thankfully blindfolded) guy this. Not to mention that it was difficult to get the thing on.

There are two main styles for strap-on harnesses: G-string and Jock. Both have waist straps; g-string covers you much like a pair of panties and goes up the crack of your ass. Jock style has leg straps that connect from the bottom of the dildo base section and run up to the waist strap in the back, and those straps hug your thigh crease. Jock style allows for complete access to the wearer’s genitals but for some it can be a little bit more confusing to get into at first. The Diva Harness by Sportsheets is supposedly made with larger women in mind – not just that it expands to a very big size (up to 84″ waist) but they claim that the wider waist straps are plus-size friendly, and the fact that the waist strap adjustment “ladder locks” (think backpack strap adjustors) are at the back and protected with a layer of padding in between them and your skin means more comfort as well. The thinner leg straps also are meant to well….sink into your curves better and not chafe/gouge as opposed to thicker straps(? I don’t know how wide vs thin straps fare, never tried anything else). The front pad is completely soft and plush and so it bends with you (unlike “latigo leather” harnesses which are generally stiff).

At first when I tried it on, the padded section sat more on my stomach than where I’d want it to sit – which would be right over my pubic mound. The second time I tried it on I was able to adjust it and put that padded section underneath my belly so that the base of the dildo would mostly be pressing against the top of my vulva and my clitoris might receive some pressure (for those women with less prominent outer labia and more prominent clits, you’ll receive even more stimulation from a harness if the dildo base hits you there).

There is a downside to this harness being able to fit such a wide range of women – it could be made to fit smaller women, as well – and that is the excess straps. Ideally when you have a harness it is yours and yours alone – so trimming the nylon webbing straps so that you don’t have 2 feet of them dangling down is an option. Except that if you trim them too much the webbing might very well come out of the plastic ladder locks when you loosen everything when it’s time for the harness to be removed. You could somehow tuck the excess webbing strap back into the leg and waist bands of the harness but that cuts down on comfort a lot. Dangling straps get in the way and do not look sexy; you will not at all look like the model on the box if you leave the excess straps dangling, lol. Then again, the model on the box isn’t what I’d ever call “plus-size”; it’s like looking at buying a size 20 dress when it’s modeled by a size 4.

While this harness does come with 3 various-sized rubber o-rings to fit many dildo sizes, the straps that hold the o-ring in place have one issue: there’s only three of them. Ideally there would be four points – 10 and 2 and 8 and 4 if we’re looking at a clock. With this one the third strap goes straight down to 6 o’clock. Why does this matter? Well, four straps are always going to be more sturdy than three if you are using a larger/heavier dildo. And if you happen to use dildos that are more “realistic” and have balls, you won’t be able to use those with a 3-strap o-ring base. This Beginner Harness has the 4 straps, the ability for the padded section to be removed (for use with a Feeldoe or more skin contact, etc but is only moderately plus-sized, fitting “up to 60″  which means it may or may not work for you if you’re right at that 60” line or a few inches below, depending on how you wear it)

This isn’t the prettiest harness out there. It’s not bad-ass masculine leather with shiny studs, it’s not pretty leather with laces, there is no femme-y corset style adjustment in the back – It’s plain, it’s androgynous and it’s styled for moderate comfort.

Enough about the specs and looks: How does it perform?

I will admit that I wasn’t able to use this on a willing warm body. Instead I employed my husband’s now-neglected Fleshlight. I don’t actually own many silicone dildos with bases that are harness-compatible so I first used the Tantus Silk Medium (with the Fleshlight) and then out of curiosity I tried out the Greta that I reviewed long ago. With a 1″ diameter, the Silk Medium had some wiggle room left in the smallest rubber o-ring. It seemed to fare alright, though. At the same time I used one of my trusty corded bullet vibes – if I were the wearer I’d want something buzzing on my clit, personally – just to see what would happen with thrusting and base contact. Even with my very full outer labia to help keep it in place, the fact that the base of the dildo still hit just above my clit meant that the bullet was pushed down from the top and kept sliding out of perfect position. The solution in my eyes would be to cut a slit in the outer fabric of the plush base, the side that rests against you, and fashion a snug pocket for your bullet to sit in. Hem/stitch the cut edges I guess so that the fabric doesn’t tear or degrade when you wash the harness (yes, it can be washed). Now mind you, I didn’t try this out yet but I think I will. Please think hard before altering a $50 harness of your own :)

So what about the nylon webbing, did it cut into me? Yeah, most notably the leg straps. Did I have them too tight? Maybe. Since they attach to the front piece at the very bottom pulling the leg straps pulls the front piece down more. I thought I needed more stability, but the straps were then so low (or far back depending on how you look at it) that it would have been a little bit cumbersome for someone else to use a toy inside me. Also, because the leg straps were snug in the standing position it meant that in a wide-spread fucking stance the straps dug in something fierce. I still had red marks an hour afterwards.

When I tried the harness with the Greta I’d wanted to see how it would hold up to a large, heavy dildo. That one is 2″ (2.25″ at the head) and the rubber o-rings do have some stretch so I was able to get the o-ring on but it wasn’t easy. Keep in mind then you also have to get the straps for the o-ring in between the ring and the dildo. Again, not easy. The weight of Greta pulled down on the soft front piece, especially at the very top. It probably wouldn’t work very well in use but I can’t say that for certain.

The o-ring snaps can be cumbersome, so it’s best to switch the dildos when you’re not wearing the harness (or have your partner attempt to do it for you). If you have anything other than a flat belly it’s probably just too frustrating to do while wearing it yourself. As you can see below, the snap is underneath, not on top. The bit of nylon webbing that you can grab to pull the snap is very small – slippery fingers or a difficult snap will make things frustrating. The bottom snap on mine was very hard to open up for some reason.

The harness might look confusing at first when it’s laid out but it’s simpler than it looks. Your legs go in between the front pad and the thin leg straps. Pull on the straps (don’t angle the strap out, pull straight from the ladder lock) to snug it up a bit. Then position the leg straps so that they rest in the crease where thigh meets hips and ass. You might want to alternately snug up the waist straps and the leg straps to gradually get it into position. Grab the waist straps and pull them from your hip line straight out in front of you. To release the straps for taking it off or readjusting, take the outer “lip” of the plastic ladder lock and pull it away from your body. That allows the strapping’s tension to ease up so it can be pulled through the ladder locks, which is quite quick and easy actually.

It’s not a bad harness – it’s great for plus-size beginners who don’t have access to real stores where they can feel and maybe even try on over clothing. It’s affordable without being cheaply made or horribly uncomfortable. If you are in the market for a harness and would like to know anything else about this one, feel free to email me with questions. I know how difficult it is to read a review and have any idea if it’s going to work with your size or body shape.

Update: 2013: I’d still agree that for plus-size women, this is a decent, affordable harness. However, if you’ve purchased this and are now sure that you’d like to continue down the harness path but want something more comfortable I would suggest that you upgrade to Aslan Leather harnesses. Every single discomfort aspect that I experienced with this Divine Diva disappeared with the Aslan harness. I own the Cherry Minx; Minx styling has a corseted backpad to allow it to expand even further. I actually didn’t need that aspect if I was positioning the base to be resting on my pubic mound. I would have if I wanted the straps to be around my actual waist (meaning base would be on my tummy). But the leather that Aslan uses is “garment leather” and it’s the softest leather around. The harness is just so damn comfortable.  I realize that the price difference between Aslan and Sportsheets is huge, but if it’s something you plan to use (with one partner, not shared between multiples) on a very regular basis then I would highly recommend that you invest in it.

  1. Are you heavy but without tummy rolls like this woman? You might still appreciate the plushness of the front piece but you could also possibly tolerate a harness with a more firm leather portion which adds stability overall
  2. Do you carry a lot of weight in your middle, with tummy rolls like this woman or this woman? (NSFW links) Then you’ll want a harness with a plushy padded front like the Diva Harness so that it doesn’t irritate the tummy fat the might hang over the edge.
