Why I Hate JIMMYJANE: Part 1 – The Form 3 Review

Subtitled: When you’re right, you’re right or I should listen to my gut more

Once long ago in Babeland I fondled a few JimmyJane vibrators and was summarily unimpressed. I read a litany of mixed reviews from the entire spectrum of “LOVE IT” to “DIE IN A FIRE” and had figured out that JimmyJane’s Form line was largely overpriced “luxury” crap.

I was right. At least I got that goin for me.

I had an opportunity to grab the Form 6 and Form 3 from Red over at ToySwap (along with the now-defunct Cone vibrator and a Metal Worx “steel” dildo) and even though I knew I was probably going to hate them I JUST HAD TO. The things I do for you guys.

JIMMYJANE Form 3

In case you’ve been living under a rock, the innovative design of the Form 3 is supposed to combine your finger with the vibrator for “enhanced touch”¹. Except…it really doesn’t. The motor is in the body of the vibrator, which is the lower half. Then the silicone forms a scoop that is just a silicone extension, sort of like a Rabbit Vibrator on steroids. The material vibrates but the portion where the motor resides isn’t what you press to your clit. You can put this “lip” or tongue or whatever sideways between your labia for a meh amount of vibration. But the design’s intention is for you to push your finger in the center there. The silicone in this section is a membrane and it feels like pushing in on a balloon. The problem is that as soon as you do this….and you touch your silicone finger to your body….the vibrations are practically nil. It’s a pretty simple theory as to why the vibrations are not being transmitted: it’s a piece of silicone material being vibrated by a distanced motor and as soon as you apply enough pressure, the vibrations nearly stop transmitting through the material altogether. To push through the membrane and have your finger-via-silicone touching your clit or your partner’s clit requires a lot of pressure. If you have any strength issues with your hand, any physical disabilities, etc you will probably not be able to use this. Arthritis? Carpal Tunnel? Tennis Elbow? FORGET IT.

So you turn the Form 3 on and you’re thinking “Hey…this seems pretty powerful!” and then you lightly touch the thicker sides of the scoop/lip/tongue and they’re “ok” but then you add a little more pressure and 60% of vibrations have left the building. You then awkwardly push your index finger through the silicone and suddenly 90% of the vibrations have left the building. I found myself grinding the rigid body of the Form 3 against my clit just to feel something. Except that it’s surface-buzzy for the most part. Definitely not deep or rumbly like the We Vibe Touch. The controls on it though are easier to use than those on the Form 6. Press “+” to turn it on and go through the 5 levels of vibrations; press “-” to turn it down or off, there is no “quick off” though. The bottom with the “~” symbol controls the pulsation type functions.

Even more frustrating is trying to charge the goddamn thing. It sits there, easy and cute in it’s charging base. The contacts must touch and they must touch just so. It’s more difficult to align than your average rechargeable computer mouse. Since it’s not magnetic it doesn’t snap into place and since the vibrator has a rounded body and the metal contact isn’t flat either you have an irritating game of the Weebles: JimmyJane Edition. Form 3 will blink at you like it’s laughing as you set it in the cradle and it falls over a little or slips down like drunken college kid trying to sit upright. After 15 tries and a few minutes you finally have the thing sitting just so and the charging light remains steady – forever. You won’t know by looking at it when it’s fully charged. No no, you have to pick it up and look at it for the blink pattern ² and if you pulled it off too soon there we go again with the goddamn Weeble shit.

For all of the innovations packed into this little thing and the hefty price tag ($140-150) it is quite possibly a bigger rip-off than any Lelo toy when you rack up all the fails. If I wanted to sugar-coat it I could say that “it’s a great tease!” or “great for foreplay!” but you know what? I don’t come to vibrator-land looking for a fuckin tease. My fingers already have that job. Foreplay? Tongues are the VP. The job of my vibrator is to get me from any state of arousal to orgasm. Vibrators are my CEO, President and Head Bitch of the Orgasms Department. I am not willing to pay $145 for TEASING. I get that for free.

The JimmyJane Form 3 is a clitoral vibrator made of silicone and it is waterproof and rechargeable and a large disappointment.

Who will like this: Anybody who enjoys buying luxury sex toys and requires barely any vibration added to pressure and massage of the clitoris for orgasm; if you require no pressure with your vibrator and like vibrations on the side of clit
Try this instead: We Vibe Touch – same size, rechargeable, luxury, much better vibrations OR Leaf Spirit if you don’t require strong & rumbly vibrations – moderate power, luxury, rechargeable, half the size of the Touch or Form 3, very unobtrusive.

Ask Lilly: What’s the strongest G-spot vibrator?

EDIT: Jan 2013:  I have recently found out that when you combine the attachment of the Gee Whiz (Or Gee Whizzard) with the new Lelo Smart Wand LARGE, the results are breathtaking. The Large Wand has powerful, rumbly-as-an-earthquake vibrations which are best experienced when harnessed in the Gee Whiz  attachment. Otherwise, the large head makes clitoral stimulation more difficult. The Gee Whiz is helpful for focusing the vibrations for external stimulation, some dual stimulation if you’re built right and angle things right, but mostly just a whole lot of awesome, internal vibration. I managed to stimulate the internal portion of my clit so much that I had a clitoral orgasm using this method and I didn’t even touch the external portion of my clit! I’m hooked. 

Others have claimed that the Fun Factory G4 Big Boss is a very powerful internal/g-spot vibrator, but the shaft is very thick and it’s not a g-spot vibrator. Due to the thick shaft, the vibrations are dampened by all that silicone, and dampened moreso when it’s inserted and surrounded by flesh. The Fun Factory Stronic could be a powerful internal vibrator, but it’s not equipped with traditional “vibrations” – it does a thrusting/jack-hammering sort of motion. It’s powerful, to be sure, but the style of stimulation may not suit many.

 

Recently a reader happened across my review for the Jopen Vanity VR6 where I said that the internal portion of the dual-stimulator was THE STRONGEST vibrator I’d ever had the pleasure of feeling inside of me and it suddenly changed my views on internal vibrators. Of course, I’m still not going to like anything that’s not as strong as the VR6, but I can see why women do like internal vibrations now (I never did before, I guess I require more power there, too. Lovely).

Said reader asked if this was true, if the VR6 really and still was the most powerful g-spot vibrator and I still say yes: But the only drawback is that it isn’t just a g-spot vibrator, it’s a dual-stim rabbit style vibrator and if you don’t enjoy the clitoral portion then it does take away from the awesomeness a bit. Fair reader had tried out g-spot attachments for the Hitachi Magic Wand, knowing that the Hitachi is pretty fucking powerful but found out that all that power at the head doesn’t really translate to the same amount of power when it has to travel through solid silicone attachments. Powerful? Sure. Enough? Not for us.

So in order to give her some more choices I did my research and found this bit on the PowerBullet site, saying that all their PowerBullets and toys that use them are powerful but that two toys stand out as having a little more oomph. The VR6 is one such toy. The other one is a smaller massage-style vibe. I remember when I snagged another Jopen Vanity vibrator, the VR2, I hoped to find the exact same internal power without the clitoral arm to get in the way. And I was let down. But I know, now, that the VR6 is a unicorn. It’s rumbly and so powerful and so so good that it kind of removes your ability to speak.

BMS Enterprises, maker of the PowerBullet: I implore you and fellow toy makers to please, please make a plain g-spot-only vibrator with the power of the Vanity VR6. PUHLEAASSE. I’ll worship you.

All that being said, I also advised her to get the Pure Wand. I know, it’s not a vibrator. But in the absence of the VR6 I will choose the Pure Wand any day over any internal vibrator because it has the ability to stimulate my g-spot like nothing else. But hey, you knew that already if you’ve been around here for very long!

We Vibe 3 vs Lelo Insignia Tiani: Showdown!

In the last few months we’ve seen two very similar, yet very different, “couples vibrator” on the sex toy market. While the We Vibe has been around for years, it lacked a remote control. When Lelo created the Sensemotion remotes for the latest Insignia line they introduced the Tiani which many have compared to the We Vibe because it is meant to be worn by the woman during penetrative sex with a guy and claims to provide hands-free clitoral stimulation. The shape is similar and comparisons can’t help but be made.

Lelo marketed the entire Sensemotion line with dual purposes – the other reason for the remote was for someone else to control the vibrator. In public? Maybe, if you’re discreet about it and manage to set it up properly. Except that it doesn’t actually work. In my review I mentioned the tests and the remote failed miserably when there was a barrier of clothing or flesh between the vibrator and the remote. And since you cannot use the Lelo Tiani or any of the Sensemotion vibrators without a working remote….you’ve got a dud. Their remote requires a couple of regular batteries while the vibrator itself is rechargeable. The remote can get confusing with all the various settings and functions and if it loses connection with the vibrator, the person holding the remote doesn’t actually know it – because the remote keeps on vibrating.

We Vibe just came out with the We-Vibe 3 and they included a remote this time because a common complaint was that the placement of the button coupled with it’s size and the fact that the shiny silicone would quickly become slippery when wet made it damn near impossible for many to change the speed or pattern during sex. We Vibe is not marketing this remote control for any use other than to control it more easily during sex – they do not mention at all that you could use it while she wears the vibrator and you control it without sex being in the mix. Because the We Vibe has always been about enhancing hetero-coupled sex. And the remote isn’t designed for the controller to not be right there – it doesn’t light up, it doesn’t do anything to tell you what setting it is on. However, the We Vibe 3 WILL still work if you lose the remote because there is a button on the vibrator. And the remote does not require any batteries or recharging, it is a permanent 5-7 year lifespan battery.

The We Vibe, any of the models, is actually for both clitoral and g-spot stimulation during sex.
The Lelo Tiani is just clitoral only, the arm is merely to keep it in place.

Both claim though to provide clitoral stimulation that doesn’t get in the way during sex and requires little effort. Except, for some couples, it’s simply a basic fact that a cock pumping in and out of a very lubricated vagina is going to provide friction and movement to the toy and it will move. It just will. Either one also may not be enough stimulation for you -  neither is truly all that powerful as a vibrator but they can be useful to some.

Price is certainly a decision maker for some, but the Lelo Tiani is priced higher than the We Vibe 3, for two reasons: 1) Lelo is cashing in harder every year on the reputation/hype that’s built up around the company and every line that they come out with is increasingly more expensive and more disappointing 2) IF IT WORKED, the Sensemotion technology would be a reason for the $20-30 price increase of the Lelo Tiani over the We-Vibe 3. Currently I’m not seeing anybody deeply discounting the We Vibe 3 because it has only been on the market a few weeks. It is possible that the prices I’m finding that are closer to $100 for the Lelo Tiani are due to the fact that the reviews aren’t great and they’re not selling well.

Who will actually like either of these? Both Tiani and We Vibe 3 are best meant for women who do not need a lot of power in the vibrations of their sex toy to get off. Women who will be able to use either one successfully are those who need just a little help during sex. If your male partner is already pushing the boundaries of your comfort zone with the size of his cock, then the We Vibe will be added girth that you may not tolerate. While the Tiani would excel there due to the small arm it also will not add anything to the party for g-spot stimulation during sex.

We-Vibe 3: Now with a Remote!

I was sent one of the newest couple’s vibrators to review, the We-Vibe 3. Long ago I reviewed the original We-Vibe which had only 2 settings (low and high). That one has been replaced by the We-Vibe II which featured a change to the control button and added in pulsation functions. All of the We-Vibes have been the same size and shape and all intended for the same use: Hetero-coupled PIV sex. The latest We-Vibe has “40% more power” and a remote control. Given my disappointment with the Lelo Tiani Sensemotion remote and vibrator, I held high hopes for the We-Vibe 3.

We-Vibe 3 New Features

WV3 has claimed 40% more power than previously – 40% more is a little bit hard to measure. If it were 100% more power than previously that would mean it is twice as strong and that could be definitively felt. I charged up both models and until I actually inserted them the power difference was barely discernible. Once inserted I could tell that the We Vibe 3 is more powerful than We Vibe 2 but for those who have tried out the other model, and found the vibration intensity extremely lacking, this increase will not be enough to seal the deal. The vibrations are diffuse throughout each “pad” so if you do best with pinpoint stimulation then this won’t exactly work for you. Personally I had to press down on the clitoral portion and massage my clit with it to get the most out of the rumbly vibrations but it still wasn’t quite enough to push me over the edge – but then again 98% of the time I can’t orgasm from just fingers on my clit so there’s that to consider. 

Remote Control – I think that a complaint of the other WV models was that it was difficult to change the vibration speed/function during sex easily. That is the purpose of the remote. Since it has a short range of about 10 feet and the remote is extremely basic, I don’t think it will work well as a public/wearable remote control vibrator just for her. It doesn’t transmit through clothes very well, either. There are no lights or anything on the remote that would tell the person handling the remote if the toy is on, or what setting it is on. There is only one button – click to turn it on and continue clicking through the cycles. Quick-release “off” by pressing and holding the button for a few seconds. There is still a button actually on the WV3 like the previous versions in case you misplace the remote. The We Vibe 3′s remote control does not have to be charged. There is no battery to replace. It has a special battery that is tested to last 5 years but is manufactured as a 10 year battery. If you should ever find that your remote might be dead you can get a replacement remote from We Vibe. *The manual does not tell you this fact. I was pretty clueless about what the hell was going on with the remote until I asked.

High Tech Charging – previously you had to plug the We-Vibe in to charge. Charging the We-Vibe 3 is much more simple now and since it does not require that you puncture the silicone it means that the vibrator is safely 100% waterproof. They don’t tell you how it works so process of elimination says that it is induction charging. It takes 24 hours to charge it up at first and a full charge gives you 2 hours of use (about an hour of that at full strength). The base has a tiny yellow LED light to let you know that the toy is situated in the charging cradle properly but it won’t tell you when it is fully charged.

 

Travel Case – Apparently they did away with the case that came with the original We-Vibe for the remake of We-Vibe 2. The original case looked pretty and didn’t have a logo until you opened it – but it highly resembled a hard-shell eyeglass case which would be cause for an unsuspecting person to open it up if they were snooping. The new travel case is actually the charging cradle – it just has a lid that, while it doesn’t snap on, stays on the cradle fairly well. If you were traveling though I think some jostling and such could dislodge the cover from the base. The base also has a spot for the remote control and if settled in properly it doesn’t rattle around. There is no place inside the case, however, for the charging adapter. Of course the original case didn’t exactly fit both the toy and the charging adapter easily, either.

If you really love pulsating patterns, you’ll be a tad disappointed because the WV3 has 4 patterns while the WV2 has 7.

All in all, the changes made ARE beneficial to the use of the toy as intended. If you’ve used a We Vibe in the past and liked it but didn’t quite love it, you might very well love the We Vibe 3. This is no powerhouse of a vibrator, so keep that in mind. However the vibrations are pleasant and manage to go beyond the surface.

Lelo Tiani Review – from the Lelo SenseMotion Insignia Line

Sexforums.com contacted me last month to see if I’d be willing to do a review for Lelo’s newest addition (the Lelo Tiani) to coincide with their giveaway. Having already reviewed the Lelo Isla, their first line of “ultra premium” Insignia sex toys (and been one of the few people who couldn’t find much good to say about it) I was skeptical. But I was terribly curious about this SenseMotion thing and dying to see if a company like Lelo could be the one to pull off a remote controlled vibrator that actually worked. Believe me, I really wanted the Lelo Tiani to work out despite my jaded skepticism.

 

Between vibrating panties and wireless remote control vibrators there’s already plenty on the market that mainly don’t work very well. Whether the complaint is that they lack power/intensity, or the wireless remote’s connection to the vibe is wonky at best and doesn’t live up to the range distance claims, or that the remote is so simple the wielder has no idea if the toy is buzzing away for the other person and at what level – they’re all largely a waste of money and are all pretty expensive. This wireless stuff is pricey business.
