Pause

I’ve never really taken any time away from this blog, I’ve been sparse in posting but that was the extent.

I’m not going to worry about this blog for a week or so. I might post a product review, that’s about it, if I can manage it.

My baby girl kitty is perhaps on her last days. We’re not sure. Last Friday she was fine, then that Saturday….not so fine. Subsequent vet visits (costly visits) and testing (oye, srsly? that much?) and meds (4) have not yet shown improvement but I’ve been told to give it a week. She has heart disease and kidney disease and hyperthyroidism. And she’s 16.

We’re not giving up on her just yet because even though she’s weak from not eating (I’m syringe-feeding her with high-cal wet food) she still purrs like crazy when we lay with her, meows and talks to us and has her moments of greatness. Earlier this week after her syringe feeding, she wanted outside! To her that means a 5-10 minute trip to the sidewalk in front of our door where her radius tends to be 4 feet (her choice) of smelling and rolling and nibbling on grass. That night though (she feels safer in the dark, more bold) she ambled on down the sidewalk. She went about 40 feet down, past other doors, just lookin for a blade of grass. Or perhaps she was running away from home, lol.

Rest assured we are vigilant to her condition and will never let her suffer. If her quality of life does not improve in a week, we’ll say goodbye, as heart-breaking as that will be to us. She’s our only furkid right now, is always near us or on us, or talking to us.

So if you don’t see my presence on your blogs as much, or talking much in IM/email/Twitter, this is why.

I’m sorry about this. Our pets are such a part of our family and it is so sad when they become sick. You know where to find me if you need anything. Take care and hope to see you back online soon.

She’s beautiful, Lilly. Just like her momma! hehehe

  4. Riff Dog says:

It’s tough when pets get old. I’m sorry she isn’t doing well. I hope she somehow gets better.

And you’re apologizing about taking one week off? You’re much more diligent than I! We’ll still be here.

    ~ Well, perhaps 2. We’ll see.

  5. Rori says:

*hug* I’m so sorry. My kitteh is only 5 years old, and I try to pretend she’s never going to get old or sick. <3

~ thanks hon…..man it’s been soooo long since a cat of mine was that young, I can barely remember. Although our girl acted 5 yrs old for most of her time with us here in the new apartment!

Hang in there, my kitten Mittens (she had an extra working claw on every paw) was 16 when I took her from my mother. She was worried that it was close to the end and couldn’t bear to watch. I had her for another 6 glorious years before she passed away. She left us in one day, and didn’t suffer at all. Don’t lose hope!

~ Thanks Chris, unfortunately all these diseased organs are failing and she just won’t eat on her own. We’re trying, but being realistic while still having hope.

This is so sad. I hate to think about this happening to my cats. it’s such a difficult decision to have to make.

~ It reinforces for me to only have a couple cats at a time….otherwise I’d go through it more frequently. The last time was 10 years ago, I’ve since healed from that.

  8. sage says:

Dang girl. Well I hope she gets better.
    Hugs.

  9. His_d says:

It’s good that you’re taking the time to enjoy her as much as possible and that she is enjoying you so much as well.

~ it’s hard, but we’re trying. interspersed with her hating us, lol, as we shove syringes of food down her throat.

  10. garbonzo says:

Oh. I am so sad. That is terrible. I hope all is better.

  11. mina says:

I know how hard this is for you. I really do hope she turns around for the best within the week. Just know that she had a wonderful life with you because it certainly sounds like she is well loved. *hugs* I’m here if you need me.

~ thanks for the advice you’ve given. she’s certainly had a spoiled time with us, making up for some bad years. I’m hoping it was enough.

  12. hubman says:

I never thought I would write “Awww, poor kitty” on your blog in this context :-( I hope she gets better soon!

Sorry to hear about your kitteh, Lily. She looks like a real beauty. Hope you all pull through OK, sounds like you’ve a good little support network at least.

  16. Torn Shorts says:

    Lilly,

My heart goes out to you. I have three cats (aka children in fur coats) and know exactly how you’re feeling. If she does pass, remember she’ll be waiting at that rainbow bridge… *Hugs*

  17. Cheating Wife says:

Huge hugs, darling. Take care…you have my best wishes. I have been there, and it sucks, frankly.

  18. TUG says:

As my little boy would say, “You’re a good kitty mommy”. :)

Awww’s big huggles Lilly. I put my wee dog of 12 years to sleep a couple years back and it was one of the hardest things I have had to do, but the memories I shared with her are the best and I hold them close to my heart. Be strong and be there for her, enjoy her and comfort her, because in her eyes you are the best thing in her life too ;) The best thing in the world, unconditional love, you haz it xxx
