HNT: Itty Bitty (Titty) Tree

When you live in a 1 bedroom apartment that is overfilled with enough stuff for a 3 bedroom (minus the beds), you don’t have room to spare for anything bigger than a tabletop tree.

I guess it didn’t matter that my big tub of ornaments is still in my mom’s attic, because they’re all meant for a bigger tree. Not this lil 2.5 job. It’s sad, I do so love my ornaments. I have a bunch of balls and shapes from my gram – Shiny Brites and other similar glass ones. And then I have a bunch of newer versions of that style. From Crate and Barrel, Pier 1, Target, etc. Elegant, shiny, sparkly, matte, glittery….I’m going away from the cutesy shit I grew up with. I got sick of it. I have kept some tasteful antique figurine type ornaments, but it’s most the glass. So this year is a deviation, indeed. A little basket job, with nothing but a garland of what I guess is meant to look like sugar-dusted…..plums? oversized cranberries? I dunno.

When I have a house, I have a few grand ideas about my Christmas trees. Some might never c0me true. Perhaps it is because I don’t have children, but I get all grinchy about decorating and undecorating the tree. My mom is a stickler for the little boxes they came in. Bleh. So I want a large closet….where I can just push the tree in to when Christmas is over. Decorated and all. :)

Another idea is that I want more than one tree. One for my antique glass ornaments….A classy fancy affair. And then another authentic old-world German tree (that is my heritage), complete with clip-on mini candles to light Christmas Eve, garlands of cranberries, gingerbread ornaments, etc. I remember being in awe of the around-the-world Christmas trees that Pitt would set up in the Cathedral of Learning every season, showcasing traditional decorations.
